My brother Shaoul,
Many kisses: I wrote to you several times inquiring about any developments regarding
the travel of Shekralla. I now repeat my enquiry and ask you to preserve the
correspondence received by Shekralla from the government and consulate of Lebanon
regarding his travel, so do not lose any of his papers whatsoever.
The reason for the delay in the government regarding Shekralla’s travel is waiting for
the endorsement by the council of a financial credit for that purpose. Now the council
has approved the credit, so there is no more reason for the delay. Please inform this
dear friend, Doctor Ashkar, so he notifies the consul of that matter. At the same time,
tell Shekralla to contact the honorable government of Lebanon and remind it of his
letter to his excellency the Prime Minister, Prince Khalid Shihab.
The case of Shekralla is of great importance to me because the highest orders have
been issued for his travel, and the council has approved the financial credit as
mentioned above. So, we still have to find out which authority is delaying the
implementation, if indeed the case is that there is still a delay. Otherwise, if the case is
taking its legal course, we can only be thankful. I await your speedy response [illegible]
[Signed]: Youssef Hitti
I wrote a nice article about the dear friend Doctor Ashkar, and I published the news of
your father-in-law Youssef’s death, and I informed his brother Sleiman and his sister’s
son, Commander Nasri Effendi, of your letter. I also expressed my condolences to the
maternal cousins of your father-in-law’s wife, Messrs. [illegible] and [their] siblings.
