إذا قالت حذام فصدقوها

من المقرر الذي لا ريب فيه أن مجرد صدور هذا العدد وتوزيعه على المواطنين الذين وضعنا عند حد غيرتهم القومية مستقبل هذه الجريدة وطرحنا بكل ثقة بين أيديهم حظنا الأدبي ومستقبلنا الاجتماعي ستحدث الضجة التي تعودنا سماعها عند صدور كل جريدة جديدة.

وبين ترنيمة التحبيذ وأنغام الاشمئزاز سوف لا ننفك عن استنزاف قطرات القلب وسكبها بين أعمدة هذه الجريدة خدمة للمبدأ القومي الذي ألقينا من أنفسنا على أنفسنا عبء أثقاله بكل بهجة وارتياح.

وقد نعلم من أنفسنا هول المهمة لشعورنا بعظم المسؤولية التي تلقى على عاتق الفرد الذي يقيس نفسه بمقام مجموع ويريد فائدة ومعاملة مجموع لذلك لا نستوعر وعراً في سبيل العمل لتحقيق أمانينا القومية.

سوف لا تأخذنا هزة الارتياح ولا تثني عزيمتنا أقوال المعارضين فشعارنا الحقيقي هو الإقدام والثبات بما يبهج الصديق الصدوق ويصادف ارتياحاً عند رجال الإقدام الذين يقدرون الخدمة الوطنية قدرها ويشعرون بان التضحية لا تعوض بماية وخمسين غرشاً بدل اشتراك جريدة سنة كاملة.

هذه الجريدة

من قبل أن تتناولها السنة المنتقدين وتقوم عليها قيامة الذين لا يفقهون للمشاريع الوطنية من معنى نتدارك بالإيضاح عن خطتنا المادية تاركين بعده للضمائر الحية حق الدفاع عن غايتنا تجاه الذين يقولون “ضجرنا من كثرة الجرائد” فنقول

أولاً   إن أعدادها تقدم مجاناً إلى تلامذة المدارس بشرط أن يكون تحرير طلبها بخط التلميذ وإنشائه
ثانياً  تقدم للسيدات بنصف قيمة البدل
ثالثاً  لكل مشترك الحق بنشر إعلان مجاناً على مدة شهر من كل عام
رابعاً  المشترك يدفع عن أي إعلان شاء نشره نصف أجرة الإعلان بالنسبة لمقاضات عموم الجرائد
خامساً  لكل مشترك الحق بنشر مقالة في كل شهر، إنما تكون موقعة بإمضائه
سادساً  الإدارة توزع مجاناً 50 عدداً في مركزها وذلك يوم صدور الجريدة فقط
سابعاً  ترسل الجريدة الى الفقراء مجاناً وذلك يكون بطلب نقتبله بكل سرور واحترام ونرسل الجريدة للطالب في أوقاتها مقابل شعوره الحي الذي يدفعه للمطالعة والاستفادة
ثامناً  الجريدة تستطلع آراء مشتركيها في عموم المواقف والأبحاث الوطنية الهامة ولا ننشر إلا ما ينطبق على آراء أكثريتهم كي تكون خادمة أمينة للشعب وآراؤها مشتقة من آرائه
تاسعاً  نتقاضى من الكهنة والأحبار بدل الاشتراك ذبيحة الهية تقام عن نفس المغفور له يوسف بك كرم الإهدني اللبناني وعلى الكاهن إشعارنا عند قيامه بهذا الواجب
عاشراً  الجريدة تقدم مجاناً لكل طالب علم في الأماكن المقدسة الآنية أسماؤها
    القدس الشريف. مكة المكرمة. النجف الأشرف وكربلاء. خلوات البياضة. وذلك يكون بطلب من الطالب مع إفادة صريحة عن اسمه الكريم ومحل سكنه
حادي عشر    تقدم الى مشايخ الدين والعلماء مجاناً

خطتها الصحافية

إن إنشاء الجريدة في نظرنا لا يختلف عن مشروع كسائر المشاريع العمومية فلا يستقيم له أمراً إلا إذا بني على قاعدة مبادلة المنفعة المشتركة

وكما أن المحل التجاري لا يحصل على رضى الزبائن والربح المقرر من وراء إقبالهم عليه هكذا الجريدة لا يجب أن تطلب مقاضات بدل اشتراكها قبلما تطرح أمام قرائها مساطر بضاعتها الأدبية فيقبل من تروقه الإقبال ويحجم من لا يجد ضالته من المباحث بين أعمدتها ولأجل ذلك سنرسل أول عدد من الأرزة لكل فاضل كريم اتصل بنا اسمه المشهور به بالغيرة على المشاريع الوطنية كي يطالعه بدقة وروية حتى اذا وجد فيه ما يخوله تقدير المنفعة التي تنتج عن ما يليه من الأعداد ويعوضه فائدة نرجو منه قبولها وقيد مائة وخمسين غرشاً قيمة البدل أمامه لحين مناسبة دفعها مالاً حلالاً للإدارة والا فبعد مطالعة العدد يمكنه طيه طياً محكماً وإرساله للإدارة التي تعتذر أمامه مقدماً عن الوقت الذي أضاعه بسببها.

مباحثها العلمية

إنها تبحث في كل شيء أمام وجه الشمس بحثاً وافياً ودقيقاً والذي يطالعها يجد بين أعمدتها باب السؤال والجواب الذي يخول كل إنسان طرح أي مسألة شاءها فيجاب عليها بكل سرعة وصراحة وذلك لأجل الفصل فيما يطرح في النوادي والمجتمعات من الأبحاث ويشكل أمرها لعدم وجود إيضاحات كافية لإقناع المناظر مناظره التاريخ والجغرافية والعمران هي من أهم أبحاثها.

أما حوادث الحرب والانحياز بالرأي لأحد الفريقين المتحاربين هذا ما نستميح القراء عذراً عنه لأنه خارج عن دائرة مبدأنا الصحافي، فلا نكتب عنه إلا ما نجد به حقيقة ثابتة فنوردها بدون أن يكون عليها أدنى صبغة لأميالنا الخصوصية وذلك كي لا نمس شعائر الآخرين بسبب ميل خاص لا نريد أن يكون له علاقة في عمل عام تقف فيه حقوقنا عند حد حقوق القراء المشتركة بيننا وبينهم فيه.

موقفها السياسي

إننا على عزم صادق بان نتخذ سياسة لبنانية معتدلة فنخاطب بكتابتنا عموم المراكز الإيجابية في كل العالم بلهجة واحدة يمكن اختصارها بهذه الجملة

فلا نحل بالقساوة محل الاعتدال إلا إذا شعرنا من احدى الدول ميلاً لاهتضامنا

سوف لا نترك مجالاً للتلاعب بعواطفنا العامة من رجال السياسة حيث السياسة باعتقادنا لا تتعدى الكذب تحت ستار المصلحة تأييداً لمطامع لا نريد أن تنشب أظافرها في مصالحنا الوطنية، فالأرزة ستدخل عموم المجالس النيابية والوزارات الخارجية في كل عواصم العالم حاملة بين أعمدتها منتهى أمال قوميتنا ومبتغانا وهي

وهكذا سيكون شعارنا الأبدي والأرزة المحبوبة رايتنا ولا نرضى ولا بوجه من وجوه من العمران مداخلة أجنبية في شؤوننا اللبنانية الخاصة إلا مداخلة الدولة التي يدفعها حب الإنسانية الضعيفة لمساعدتنا مساعدة مجردة عن المطامع السياسية.

الخلاصة

إن ما ذكر هو الخطة التي تسير عليها الى ما شاء الله تعالى أما الغاية التي نرجو الوصول إليها مقدماً هي إقبال السواد الأعظم على مطالعة ما نكتبه وإغضاؤهم عما نرتكبه فاذا اتيح لنا ذلك كنا قد استوفينا أجرنا فننشط الى ما هو أقرب الى الواجب علينا.

وإننا نرجو أن تصادف أرزتنا هذه استحسان ورضى لدى حضرات القراء الكرام ونعدهم ببذل الجهود في إخلاص الخدمة والله المسؤول أن يلهمنا منهجاً قومياً ومسلكاً مفيداً في ضلال الأرزة ومناصرة أبناء قوميتنا والله ولي التوفيق والسلام.

*ملاحظة: مقولة “إذا قالت حذام فصدقوها” تعود إلى لجيم بن صعب بن علي بن بكر، وحذام هي زوجته التي اشتهرت بالرأي السديد والفطنة والذكاء وهو ما جعلها مضرب المثل في الحكمة.

Trust her for she speaks the truth

No one doubts the expectation that the mere publication of this issue and its distribution among citizens, in whose patriotic ardor we place the future of this newspaper and in whose hands we trustfully put our literary fortunes and social destiny, will cause the clamor we have grown accustomed to hear every time a new newspaper is published.

Yet between the chants of acclaim and the laments of abhorrence, we will never cease seeking out our deepest sense of identity and casting it in the columns of this paper in service of the patriotic principle whose burden we have willingly taken upon ourselves with joy and satisfaction.

We may grasp the enormity of the task and the magnitude of the responsibility that falls on our shoulder as we stand before others and strive for their welfare and esteem. Therefore, we shall not be relent in our effort to achieve our patriotic aspirations.

We shall neither be shaken nor deterred by the words of opponents, for our true slogan is courage and constancy, which ought to please the true friend and meet the satisfaction of courageous men who appreciate the value of service to the nation and know that sacrifice cannot be compensated by the annual subscription fee of 150 piasters.

This Newspaper

Before the critics and those ignorant of national imperatives comment on it, we preemptively clarify our financial plan, leaving it to the conscientious to defend our objective in the face of those who say, “we have tired of so many newspapers”:

• The issues of Arzit Lebnen are offered free of charge to school pupils, provided the request is made in writing by the pupil himself
• Ladies are offered a 50% discount on the subscription fee
• Each subscriber may publish one month-long advertisement for free per year
• The subscriber shall pay for any advertisement half the amount charged by other newspapers
• Each subscriber may publish one article per month, provided it is signed by him
• The Office shall distribute 50 free issues in its bureaus on the day of publication
• The newspaper is sent at publication time at no charge to low-income readers whose request we happily receive with respect, and based on their sole desire to read and be informed
• The newspaper polls the opinions of its subscribers on various questions and topics of national importance, and publishes only what satisfies a majority of them, in order for it to be a faithful servant of the people and for its opinions to derive from theirs.
• Priests and prelates may replace their subscription fee by a mass held in honor of the late Youssef Bek Karam, the Lebanese citizen from Ehden. We ask that the mass celebrant inform us when such a mass is held
• The newspaper is offered free to every seeker of knowledge in the following holy sites: Holy Jerusalem, Noble Mecca, Holy Najaf and Karbala, and the Biyyada Retreats. The request must be made with an express statement of the requester’s name and his place of residence
• The newspaper is offered at no charge to the men of the cloth and religious scholars

Editorial Policy

The project of launching a newspaper is in our opinion no different from any other project. It won’t work unless it is based on a win-win rule of shared benefits.

Just as a commercial enterprise will not gain the clients’ satisfaction of clients and the profit it expects from their loyalty, so it is with the newspaper. It ought not demand payment of a subscription fee before it demonstrates to its readers samples of its “literary goods”, such that those who like it will stay loyal to it while those who don’t find in its columns what they’re looking for will refrain from subscribing. Therefore, we will send the first issue of Arzit Lebnen to any esteemed person who contacts us with eagerness for patriotic projects so he can read it at leisure. For if he finds in it that which allows him to appreciate the rewards he may find in subsequent issues, we kindly request that he accept our offer, jot down the subscription fee of 150 piasters until such time as he may pay it to our office. Otherwise, we request that he inserts the issue in an envelope and send it back to our offices with our apologies in advance for having wasted time on its account.

Articles

They will deal with every topic under the sun in detail and with accurate research. The reader will find in its columns questions to ask and answers to them. Readers may propose topics that will be addressed rapidly and objectively so that we may adjudicate topics discussed in clubs and societies where one may not find sufficient clarifications to convince either protagonist. Arzit Lebnen will cover topics in history, geography and culture among its most important areas of focus.

As for war events and opinions that are biased for one of the two embattled sides, we apologize to our readers for refraining from them because they fall outside of our editorial principles. We will not report them unless we find established facts that we communicate free of our particular preferences. In this manner, we do not hurt the feelings of others because of a particular preference that we do not wish to insert into a public matter, so that our rights stop at the shared rights we have with our readers.

Political Posture

We are genuinely determined to adopt a moderate posture vis-à-vis Lebanon. Our writings will target major opinion centers around the world with one message that can be summarized as:

Lebanon to the Lebanese

We will strive not to replace moderation with extremism, unless we feel that any given nation is intent on dissolving our existence and absorb us.

We will not allow that our national aspirations be tampered with by politicians. In our opinion, politics is the practice of lying under the cover of the general interest and in service to ambitions that will claw into our national interest. Arzit Lebnen will enter all legislative assemblies and foreign ministries in capitals around the world bearing in its columns the ultimate aspiration of our patriotism, which is:

Lebanon to the Lebanese

This shall be our eternal slogan and our beloved Cedar shall be our banner. We shall not permit, under any pretense of civilization, a foreign interference in our internal Lebanese affairs, except from those foreign nations that are motivated by love for downtrodden humanity and whose assistance shall be free from political ambitions.

In Conclusion

The preceding is our plan for the newspaper. As for the objective we strive for in advance is for the vast majority of people to read it and be forgiving with our faults, and if this does indeed materialize, we would have earned our reward and dedicate ourselves even more to what we deem a duty for us.

We hope for Arzit Lebnen to be met with approval and satisfaction by our esteemed readers. We pledge to them to work hard to deliver an honest service. God is our custodian in following a patriotic and beneficial path in the shade of the cedar to support our people. It is God who bestows success and peace.

Note: The saying “If Houdham speaks, believe her”, translated in the title as “Trust her for she speaks the truth”, is attributed to Lujaym bin Saab bin Ali bin Baker whose wife, Houdham, was reputed for her compelling opinions, acumen and intelligence. She thus became the object of proverbial wisdom.
